Qualifying Life Events

Mid-year plan changes are allowed if you experience a qualfied life event.

  1. Hexcel Benefits
  2. Getting Started
  3. Qualifying Life Events

You can change your coverage during the year when you experience a qualified change in status, such as marriage, divorce, birth, adoption, placement for adoption, or loss of coverage. The change must be reported in Workday within 30 days of the event.

The change must be consistent with the event. For example, if your dependent child no longer meets eligibility requirements, you can drop coverage only for that dependent.

Consider your benefit choices carefully because the elections you make as a new hire and during Annual Enrollment will stay in effect for the entire year (January 1 through December 31), unless you experience a qualifying life event.

Examples of Qualifying Events Include:

  • Change in marital status (e.g., marriage or divorce)
  • Change in number of dependents (e.g., childbirth or adoption)
  • Change in spouse’s employment status
  • Change in Medicare or Medicaid eligibility

You can report qualifying life events and enrollment changes directly through Workday. Go to Workday > Benefits > Change Benefits > and enter your event information.
